Xfinity Outage or Comcast Internet Down? What to Do Now, and What to Do If It Keeps Happening.
If your Xfinity internet is down right now, the fastest answers come from Xfinity itself, and the steps are right below. If this is the third or fourth outage this year, that's a different problem, and it's the one we help with: finding out which other providers are built to your address and what they'd really cost.

Internet down right now? Check with Xfinity first
- 1. Outage map: xfinity.com/support/statusmap (opens in a new tab). Sign in, or enter any address Xfinity serves.
- 2. Xfinity app: Sign in, and an outage affecting your address shows on the home screen, with the cause and an estimated repair time.
- 3. Text: Send OUT to 266278. Message and data rates may apply.
These are Xfinity's own outage tools. We can't see, report, or fix outages on Xfinity's network.
Read This First: We're Not Xfinity
Integra Path Online LLC is an independent authorized reseller. We are not Comcast or Xfinity, and our phone number is not Xfinity or Comcast customer service. We can't check outage status, report an outage, send a technician, apply a credit, or access your account. For any of those, use the Xfinity app, xfinity.com/support (opens in a new tab), or the number on your Xfinity bill. Call us when you want to compare new service at your address. Providers pay us a commission when a new order goes through us, so the call is free.
Honest first step. If it's a one-time outage, we'll say so, and that waiting it out is usually the right call.
Every provider at your address. AT&T Fiber, Spectrum, and Xfinity, checked for your exact address.
No fee to leave Xfinity. Current Xfinity Internet plans have no annual contract and no early termination fee.
Is It an Xfinity Outage, or Something at Home?
Comcast outages in your area and a problem inside your home look the same from the couch: nothing loads. Five minutes of checking tells you which one it is, and who can fix it.
- 1
Check Xfinity's outage tools
The outage map at xfinity.com/support/statusmap (opens in a new tab), the Xfinity app, or a text with OUT to 266278. If an Xfinity internet outage is listed for your address, the map and app show the cause and an estimated repair time. You can also ask for text updates from the outage map, so you'll know when service is back. - 2
Look at the gateway
Lights off usually means no power at the outlet. Lights on but no internet usually means a network or signal problem. Unplug the gateway for about a minute, plug it back in, and give it several minutes to come back up before you test again. - 3
Test wired, then WiFi
If a laptop plugged into the gateway with a cable gets online but WiFi devices don't, the problem is the WiFi inside your home, not a Comcast network outage. If nothing works either way, it's the connection coming into the house. - 4
Nothing listed, still down? Report it to Xfinity
An outage can affect your address before it appears on the map. Use "Report an outage" on Xfinity's outage map page, or contact Xfinity through the app. Only Xfinity can open a repair ticket or send a technician.
Xfinity WiFi Down, or the Whole Connection?
"Xfinity WiFi outage" and "Comcast cable outage" get searched as if they're the same thing. They aren't, and the difference decides whether waiting, restarting, or switching makes sense.
| What you're seeing | What it usually means | Who handles it |
|---|---|---|
| Every device offline, gateway lights off | No power to the gateway, or a local power outage | Wait for power, or plug into a working outlet |
| Every device offline, gateway lights on | A network outage or signal problem on the line | Xfinity: check the outage map, then report it |
| Wired works, WiFi doesn't | The gateway's WiFi, not the connection | Restart the gateway. If it continues, Xfinity support |
| One device offline, the rest fine | That device's settings or WiFi connection | Restart or reconnect the device |
| Fine all day, slow every evening | Heavy use on the shared neighborhood connection | A pattern worth comparing other providers over |
| Drops for a few minutes, several times a week | A recurring line or equipment issue | Xfinity first. If repeat visits don't fix it, compare |
The last two rows are where a lot of frustration comes from. Cable internet shares capacity across a neighborhood, so evening slowdowns can come back no matter how many times the gateway gets swapped. Repeated drops after repeated technician visits are the clearest sign that a different provider, not another restart, is the fix.
Xfinity and Comcast Power Outages: Why the Internet Goes Out With the Lights
An Xfinity power outage usually starts with yours: when the power goes out at home, your gateway goes out with it. That's true of every wired home internet provider, Xfinity, AT&T Fiber, and Spectrum alike. Equipment inside your home needs electricity, and no plan changes that.
A wider Comcast power outage can also take down the network outside your home. Cable networks rely on powered equipment in the neighborhood, so when an area loses power for a long stretch, service can stay out even for homes on a backup generator.
A battery backup for your own equipment
An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) from any electronics store keeps a gateway running through short outages at home. It only helps if the network outside is still up.
Xfinity's Storm-Ready WiFi
Xfinity sells a device with a four-hour battery and a cellular backup connection. At its 2023 launch it cost $252, or $7 a month over 36 months, and was limited to plans of 800 Mbps or faster. Ask Xfinity for current pricing and eligibility.
Fewer powered parts between you and the network
Fiber networks use mostly passive, unpowered equipment between the provider's facility and your home, so a neighborhood power outage is less likely to cut service. Your fiber terminal and router at home still need power, and a UPS covers those.
For short outages, your phone is the quickest backup. Most unlimited phone plans include a hotspot allowance. Check yours before the next storm, not during it.
Getting a Credit for an Xfinity Internet Outage
Xfinity says customers affected by a recent outage may be eligible for a bill credit, and that eligible credits up to its maximum are applied automatically. If you don't see one, you can check eligibility yourself.
- 1
Go to Xfinity's support page
Sign in at xfinity.com/support (opens in a new tab) and find "Outage map and credit." - 2
Select "Check credit eligibility"
Enter the date the outage started and the date service came back, then submit. - 3
Keep your own record
Write down the date, start time, and end time of every outage. It helps with credits, and if outages keep coming back, it's the clearest way to see the pattern.
Credits are handled only by Xfinity. We can't request, check, or apply one for you.

One Outage Is Bad Luck. A Pattern Is a Reason to Compare.
Every provider has outages. A storm, a cut line, or a network update can take any of them down for an afternoon. The question isn't whether your internet ever goes down, it's whether it goes down often enough to cost you work, school, or sleep.
Signs it's a pattern, not a one-off
More than one outage a month, for several months running.
Evening slowdowns that come back no matter how often the gateway restarts.
WiFi that drops every few days, even after the gateway has been replaced.
Repeat technician visits for the same problem.
Service that goes out with every storm, even short ones.
Video calls that freeze because upload speed runs out before download does.
If two or more of those sound familiar, it's worth twenty minutes on the phone to see what else is built to your address. Fiber may have arrived since you signed up with Xfinity, and the price of switching is lower than most people expect.

What Else Might Be Built at Your Address
Which of these you can get depends on your exact address, sometimes your exact building. Here's how the main options differ when reliability is the reason you're looking.
| Option | How it reaches your home | Where it's strong | What to watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| AT&T Fiber | Fiber line to your home, mostly passive equipment along the way | Upload speed matches download on every tier; no data caps; no annual contract | Only where it's built; new lines may need a technician install |
| Spectrum Internet | Cable: fiber to the neighborhood, coaxial cable into your home | A separate network from Xfinity's; no data caps; no contract | Shares a neighborhood connection like other cable; upload well below download |
| AT&T Internet Air | 5G wireless from a nearby cell tower to a gateway at a window | No line into the home to damage; quick setup | Speeds vary with signal and tower traffic |
| Staying with Xfinity | Cable at most addresses; Xfinity fiber at some | No contract; a 5-year price guarantee option for new customers | If outages are the problem, a new plan on the same line may not fix it |
One outside measure: in the American Customer Satisfaction Index's 2026 study, AT&T Fiber scored 79 out of 100, the highest of any fiber provider. Xfinity's cable service and Spectrum both scored 71. The study measures customer satisfaction, not outage counts, but reliability is a large part of what those customers are rating.
Source: American Customer Satisfaction Index, Telecommunications Study, May 2026. Fiber providers averaged 76 and non-fiber providers 71. Availability, speeds, and pricing vary by address. Each provider sets its final price, fees, equipment charges, and terms.

Leaving Xfinity Without a Day Offline
After a run of outages, the last thing anyone wants is a switch that adds another one. Four things we sort out on the call before you order:
Keep Xfinity until the new service works
Cancel Xfinity only after the new connection is installed and tested. Overlapping by a few days costs far less than a gap.
Check what leaving costs
Current Xfinity Internet plans have no annual contract and no early termination fee, including the 5-year price guarantee. If you're on an older plan or a bundle, we'll check its terms with you before you order.
Return the gateway
Xfinity equipment needs to go back after you cancel. An unreturned gateway is one of the most common reasons a closed account keeps billing.
Know the install timeline
A new AT&T Fiber line usually needs a technician visit, typically scheduled anywhere from a few days to about two weeks out. Spectrum often offers a self-install kit. We'll confirm the options and timing for your address.
What Happens When You Call
- 1
Tell us what keeps going wrong
How often the internet drops, when it happens, and how the household uses it: working from home, school, gaming, streaming. That shapes which option makes sense. - 2
We check what's built at your address
AT&T Fiber, Spectrum, and Xfinity, priced for your address, with the rate after any promotion ends. We don't need your Xfinity account login, Social Security number, or payment details to give you a price. - 3
You decide, with nothing to sign on the call
If something better is available, we can place the order and schedule installation on the same call. If staying with Xfinity is still your best option, we'll say so. Hanging up without ordering is a normal outcome.
Xfinity and Comcast Outage Questions
Use Xfinity's outage map at xfinity.com/support/statusmap (opens in a new tab), the Xfinity app, or text OUT to 266278. The map and app show outages affecting your address, the cause, and an estimated repair time.
We can't see the status of Xfinity's network, so we can't tell you. Xfinity's outage map, app, and text line are the only sources that show current Comcast network outages for your address.
No. Integra Path Online is an independent authorized reseller, and (888) 274-3177 is for comparing and ordering new service. For outages, repairs, billing, or credits, contact Xfinity through the app, xfinity.com/support (opens in a new tab), or the number on your Xfinity bill.
No. Only Xfinity can repair its network, open a ticket, or send a technician. What we can do is help you compare other providers if outages keep happening.
If a device plugged into the gateway with a cable stays online while WiFi drops, the issue is the WiFi inside your home: gateway placement, interference, or the gateway itself. Xfinity support can troubleshoot or replace it. If wired connections drop too, the problem is the line coming into your home.
Not without backup power. The gateway in your home needs electricity, and a wider Comcast power outage can also affect equipment in the neighborhood. A UPS battery or Xfinity's Storm-Ready WiFi device can keep you connected for a limited time.
Xfinity says eligible customers may receive a credit, applied automatically up to its maximum. You can check eligibility on xfinity.com/support (opens in a new tab) under "Outage map and credit." Only Xfinity can apply a credit.
Fiber networks use fewer powered parts between the provider and your home, and their upload speed matches download, which helps video calls hold up. Fiber customers also rate their service higher in satisfaction surveys. Still, any provider can have an outage, and what matters most is what's built at your address.
Current Xfinity Internet plans have no annual contract and no early termination fee. Older plans or bundles can have different terms, so check yours before you cancel. We can go through that with you on the call.
It depends on the provider and your address. A new AT&T Fiber line typically takes from a few days to about two weeks to schedule. Keep Xfinity running until the new service is working.
